Vitti Sthapati Brindo Ltd won the Honorable Mention Award at ARCASIA Awards for Architecture, 2017 in Social Responsible Architecture Category for their project Urban OASIS : Integrated Development of Hatirjheel Including, Begunbari Canal, Dhaka.
The project carried out the development of Hatirjheel area by developing the jheel (low lands between Tongi diversion road and Rampura road or Pragati Sarani and part of Begunbari khal – starting from behind Sonargaon Hotel up to Tongi diversion road) and constructions of at grade roadway, waterways, bus bay, parking spaces connecting bridges or overpass etc. This infrastructure development will improve the environment of the area and at the same time traffic congestion in and around adjacent roads of the Dhaka City. The project structures are designed following an innovative approach and engineering design for aesthetically beautiful structures using local materials and available technology. This project having comprehensive approach and huge potentiality in terms of (a) Connectivity, (b) Water Retention, (c) Recreation, (d) Social Integration and (e) Density Relief and it will play most vital impact on the environmental responsive development with aiming social integration and justice besides traffic easement for the city and its growth to the east. The project, spread over 302 acres and will facilitate connectivity between eastern and western Dhaka and having aims to reduce water-logging to maintain Dhaka's environmental balance.
